It is good to show baseball outfielders at an early age the appropriate way to approach a fly ball – especially if there is a threatening runner on base.
After players master the throw to first, they need to learn how to throw out the lead runner. This baseball skills drill will help them see the lead runner, and also be able to make a decision on throwing to first base, or to second.
Often time batters over extended themselves when they try to hit the ball. Keeping you hands in the proper position in relation to the ball is important for consistent hitting. It is important to practice hitting drills for baseball like “Hold your shirt”.
Baseball catching drills are important to younger baseball players as they teach using two hands to catch the ball. If you use something like Alligator arms (kids like alligators), it will give them a better understanding of what is expected of them when they field a ball.
This combines several of the concepts we have learned in some of the other earlier drills. Fielding the ball and making a throw while there is a runner running to different bases is a skill that needs to be repeated over and over in order for the skill to improve and become second nature
