Purpose:
Infielders practice turning 5-2-3 double play
Setup:
- Lines of players at 3B, Catcher and Short 1B positions
- Coach with fungo bat right of home plate
Execution:
- Fungo 1 hits ground ball to 3B
- 3B fields grounder and throws to Catcher at home plate
- Catcher turns and throws to Short 1B for 5-2-3 Double Play
- Short 1B returns ball to Fungo 1
- Rotate and repeat
Tips for Younger Athletes:
- Encourage focusing on the basics of fielding and throwing mechanics. Proper glove work and foot positioning can make the transition smoother.
