I’m often asked for suggestions for [tag]baseball fielding drills[/tag]. Here’s a simple [tag]baseball[/tag] [tag]coaching[/tag] [tag]drill[/tag] that will pay huge dividends with your team.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced, especially with younger players is the ability to effectively move the ball around the [tag]infield[/tag]. I have used this consistently through the years, it provides for practice moving the ball but also a little competition which the kids love.
Place a player at each infield position and a [tag]runner[/tag] at home. Start with the ball at the [tag]pitcher[/tag] and have him [tag]throw[/tag] to 1st base at the same time the runner starts running the bases. The players try and get the ball around the infield before the runner gets home.
I started this with 8-9 year olds and been using it through the years. As they get better you can have the ball from pitcher to 1st, back to pitcher then to 2nd and so on. Depending on the level of the team you can move the ball through the infield as needed to make the race competitive.
