Here is a [tag]baseball drill[/tag] that is good throughout the season.   I call it one of the [tag]baseball improvement drills[/tag] and it doesn’t take long. It helps the players realize that they have to be on their toes and thinking ahead at all times.

Scoring position Drill – Set a defense and put at least three runners at second and at least 3 at home.   As you hit fungo base hits to the outfield have the runner at second attempt to score.   It is important that a pitcher is on the mound holding on the runners.   Put someone as 3rd base coach.   The player who starts at the plate should read the flight of the [tag]baseball[/tag] and try to advance to scoring position if possible.   The job of the defense is to throw the runner out at home and at the very least not let another man advance to scoring position.   (a 20 minute baseball drill)

I’m not sure where I found this drill but my players enjoy the competitive nature that it presents.   It is also good practice under pressure so that, in a real game, we have fewer mental mistakes.
