I sent out a request for my newsletter subscribers to send in a favorite [tag]baseball training program[/tag].   Check out this [tag]baseball drill[/tag] below that Mike sent in (very creative!).Baseball Training Program

From Mike”¦
I have a problem with 8 year olds coming out of two-three years of Farm/Instructional [tag]baseball[/tag] not knowing what to do when a ball is hit in the air.

In the Farm and Instructional Leagues they are taught to take off on contact – one base advance only.   So half the time the kids are called out once the ball is caught because they took off running without watching the ball.

I’m sure I’m not the only [tag]baseball coach[/tag] who does this””

  • I set up my infield w/ pitcher, put a runner on all bases.
  • I stand close to the pitcher with my racquet ball racquet and hit pop ups with an Incrediball.
  • Teach the runners to take 3-4 steps once ball is hit, watch play as the ball is either caught or dropped. Take off if dropped, GET BACK if caught.
  • Then rotate counter clockwise until all baseball players have run to each plate. Works great!   Kids love new stuff.
