Batting Practice – Fastball/Changeup

Purpose:

Allows hitters to practice recognizing fastballs and changeups while infielders get reps fielding and throwing

Setup:

1. Infielders in regular positions
2. Batting practice hitter at home plate
3. Coach pitching from mound
4. Two coaches with fungo bats at either side of the plate
5. Baserunners at second and third base

Execution:

1. Coach pitches to BP hitter. Fielders and baserunners play live off the bat.
2. After each hit, Fungos hit to infielders who did not make a play on the live ball. The goal is get as many fielders involved as possible.

Batting Practice Hitter:

1. Coach mixes fastballs and changeups to BP Hitter. BP Hitter must call out each pitch as it approaches working on staying back on changeups
2. On each hit, infielders play live off the bat
3. Baserunner at second attempts to steal third on each pitch. Baserunner at third reads the ball off the bat and tries to score off a ground ball or sacrifice fly
4. Return ball to Coach at the mound and reset.

Fungo 1:

1. After each hit from the BP Hitter, Fungo 1 hits alternating ground balls to SS or 1B
2. On grounder to SS, flip to 2B covering second, who throws to first for 6-4-3 double play
3. On grounder to 1B, throw to SS covering second, who throws back to first for 3-6-3 double play
4. Return ball to Fungo 1 and reset

Fungo 2:

1. After each hit from Fungo 1, Fungo 2 hits alternating ground balls to 3B and 2B
2. On grounder to 3B, throw to 2B covering second, who throws to 1B covering first for 5-4-3 double play
3. On grounder to 2B, flip to SS covering second, who throws to 1B covering first for 4-6-3 double play
