One of the biggest areas that I receive requests for [tag]coaching youth baseball[/tag] is how to hold the attention of the kids. Read below for a great suggestion on this topic.

One challenge of coaching [tag]baseball[/tag] to the age range of 5 to 8 year old boys is keeping them focused during basic ground ball and fly ball[tag] baseball drills[/tag].
Our team has two [tag]baseball coach[/tag]es; we each take half of our team and work on various baseball drills. Even in these smaller groups of around 6-8 players each, it only takes on player that might be a bit squirrelly to create a fire storm of silliness that quickly spreads to the remaining kids. To reduce this, both of us split the kids into mini infields (1st, 2nd and 3rd) with 2 to 3 players at each position. We then work on fielding drills with them.
This keeps some distance between the kids, keeps the drills moving along faster, and helps keep the kids focused.
