Coming up with new ideas for [tag]youth baseball coaching[/tag] can be a challenge. Here’s a [tag]baseball drill[/tag] that has worked well for me in the past. Give it a try with your team.
A favorite infield [tag]baseball[/tag] drill:
Split the boys into 2 or 3 lines and place 2-3 batting tees along the length of the batting cage.
Raise the tees to waist height of your first basemen and place tennis balls on the tee. Hit infield to the lines and while you get to work on their fielding techniques, knuckles to the ground, staying out in front, etc. They also have a target to go after for the throws.
The group or line who hits the ball off the tee the most wins. Usually run 10-15 reps per player.
Good for infield and throwing to a focal point. Alter the distances at each practice (end, ss and 3rd base.) Also use similar techniques with a volley ball for the catchers working on throws to 3rd, second etc.
