Here are two free youth baseball drills you can use often with younger players. The first one is your standard baserunning drill that teaches them not to panic but to make quick accurate throws. The second is a soft toss scrimmage that works on baserunning and hitting.
(We use it for 8’s and under)
*Runners on 1st and at home
*Infield in normal position
*Coach hits ball to any fielder
*Fielder throws runner out at 1st
*Runner on 1st tries to go 1st to 3rd
*1st baseman catches ball at 1st for out and then throws to 3rd to try and get the double play
It’s fun for the kids and teaches them not to panic but to make quick accurate throws. It also works on baserunning.
Soft Toss Scrimmage Game
We play a soft-toss scrimmage game.
Each batter takes a couple swings, then he hits one and runs it out. It allows our fielders to attack solidly hit balls in play, and our batters get some good fundamental hitting training as well as base-running against players who know what to do with the ball.
In just 20-30 minutes our kids see lots of action.
